Kaine wants input on workforce issues

Patrick O. Gottschalk, who serves as secretary of commerce and trade, and Daniel G. LeBlanc, senior work force advisor will be holding a series of six meetings around the Commonwealth to gather information on economic development and workforce improvement. The Hampton Roads meeting will be held on August 2 from 9 am to 12:30 pm at the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center at Norfolk State University. Other meetings will be held in Annandale, Weyers Cave, Abingdon, Danville, and Chester.

From the press release:

“A skilled and educated workforce forms the foundation of our economy,” said Governor Kaine. “These meetings will consider how we can better invest in our workforce to maintain Virginia’s competitive edge, while examining and building upon the growing strengths of our regional economies. The economic development strategies that will move Virginia forward must build on the strengths of our people and our regions, reflecting the benefits of Virginia’s strong and diverse economy.”

The information gathered from this series of meetings will be used in updating the Governor’s strategic plans. The meetings are open to the public.

  2. Thanks. I’ve spoken to several economic development folks over the years, and in the past this was the line – Hampton Roads isn’t in trouble.

We don’t get a lot of attention from the State for economic development help because most of the state would love to be in our situation.

Maybe Oceana and Ford have changed that view a little, but it would be interesting how much.
