Ford shutting Norfolk plant year earlier

As has been speculated for some time now, the Pilot is reporting that Ford will be shutting down the Norfolk plant in 2007, instead of 2008. Although the story doesn’t say so, I believe this information came from a webcast this morning that Ford held for employees and the media. Lackluster sales of the F-150 series trucks is the culprit. The UAW yesterday announced that Ford will be offering buyout packages to its hourly employees.

The Norfolk Ford plant employs nearly 2,400 workers.
