I understand since Dems have done just that for so many elections they assume those who lose cry like a ittle baby, but look around… How many demanded recount and accusations of voter fraud do you hear about? Not much

Good topic (As is the norm on this blog) and some good points. I have a young son and I am doing everything to make sure he speaks well. I teach him things like:

It’s not a matter of being “politically correct” it’s a matter of speaking English properly. You remember, English, the language EVERYONE should be speaking.

You lost get over it and grow up.

The only way Democrats win elections is to pretend they are like us.

Gun control? Promising not to raise taxes? You won the Senate race in Pennsylvania by running a Democrat who thinks Roe v. Wade should be overturned.

Minority? Democrats gained the majority by running a lot of candidates talking Republican issues.

Fact: Democrats won fewer seats in two midterm elections under Bush than the Republicans won in two midterms under Clinton.

Read into this year’s elections all you want. When you try to implement the Democrat platform with candidates who spent a year running away from it, you’ll see how popular you are.

If democrats insist on everyone using the language that they consider politically correct, then I figure we can call them democrats.

Even Bill Buckley–who, agree with him or not–has a pretty clear grasp of language and a good ear loathes this clumsy term. He agrees with your take, PG:

In this case, the memo actually exists. Righties, apparently, love to be “controlled.”

I personally called Lt. Governor Bill Bolling on this issue at the Blogging Conference in Martinsville. Basically, it comes down to this, as long as Republicans could be trusted, as long as the American people could put the faith of God in the Republican party, as long as Republicans could be counted upon to be holy, strong and good, Republicans could be as rotten in politics as they wanted. Using language to “control” the debate is just how things get done downtown.

Now, however, the American people know that the Republicans in power are failures. They have weakened America militarily, socially, economically, and morally.

As long as the Republican party was the party of success, they could be as rude as they wanted. Now, it just isn’t going to work for them.

So I say, “Go for it”. Keep heaping your fear and derision upon the opposition (Republican translation “devils”, Democratic translation “opposition”). Keep proving your ignorance and fear (and bad grammar) by calling us the “Democrat [sic] Party”.

We’ll keep calling you the Minority Party.

How does hypocrisy taste?

I don’t want Republicans to stop being ignorant or rude. The fact that they are ignorant and rude makes them easier to defeat.

The rudest things I saw and heard during this campaign were by Webb supporters.

Heck, I’d call the person who yelled out “No More Macaca” during Webb’s victory speech pretty rude.

Compared to that, saying “the Democrat Party” doesn’t seem so rude to me.

Jeezz…..y’all are control freaks.

People would learn real quick that way.

Until a year or so ago I never knew that “democrat party” was an insult. I always thought members of the republican party were called republicans, and members of the democrat party were called democrats.

Yes, the adjective form is most often used for political parties – libertarian, socialist, communist, but not always – ie, the constitution party.

I actually make an effort now to say democratic party, but sometimes I still slip and may write democrat party, not intending it as an insult. But I do think that if one knows fully well that the actual, official name is Democratic party, then to consistently call it Democrat party is being intentionally insulting. I liken it to the kind of person who willingly chooses to misprounce another’s given name – childish and lacking in class.

The deliberate mispronunciation of our party’s name is nothing more than Republicans being rude. If they want to be rude in public in front of cameras, that’s fine with me. The media and the general public both pick up on this lack of basic manners and it costs the Republicans, especially here in the South where people put a premium on manners.

Bad manners and failed policy ensured our victory in 2006. If the Republican Party will simply cling to its bad manners and negative advertising, we can expand the Democratic control of Congress and recapture the General Assembly.

What is the name of a certain political party in the United States—not the one which controls the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the federal government but the other one, which doesn’t? The question is a small one, to be sure: a minor irritation, a wee gnat compared to such red-clawed, sharp-toothed horrors as the health-care mess and the budget deficit, to say nothing of Iraq and Lebanon. But it has been around longer than any of them, and, annoyingly, it won’t go away.

Much better things to worry about IMO.
