So much for FOIA

The Hampton City Council has reached a settlement with former City Manager George Wallace, the Daily Press reports. As for the details of the settlement, which will be paid out of taxpayer funds, well….

Federal court documents in Norfolk state that a settlement has been reached in the case, but the specifics are sealed. City Council members have declined to discuss the details of the deal, referring questions to City Attorney Cynthia Hudson, who also declined to elaborate.

The pair of lawsuits filed sought damages of $7.2 million. The settlement was apparently reached in early September.

The citizens of Hampton, whose tax dollars have been used to defend the suit (some $333,000), have a right to know how much more this is costing them. Why do our elected officials insist on keeping us out of the loop?

A former candidate, I've learned a lot about politics, both good and bad. I'd prefer more of the former and a lot less of the latter and I'm trying to do my part!
