Wardrup retires

The Virginian-Pilot is reporting that Leo Wardrup announced his retirement.

“First, I can no longer meet my own demands for a vigorous campaign so characteristic of my past campaigns,” he said in a written statement. “Second, and most important for my constituents, I can no longer serve with the energy they have come to expect from me. Consequently, I do not intend to seek reelection to a ninth term.” Wardrup also said he decided not to run for re-election “only after I was assured that a winning candidate was prepared to run.”

I guess the winning candidate he was referring to was Joe Bouchard :)

About Vivian J. Paige

A former candidate, I've learned a lot about politics, both good and bad. I'd prefer more of the former and a lot less of the latter and I'm trying to do my part!
