It’s a boy!

For Mary Cheney and her partner Heather Poe, that is.

Samuel David Cheney was born at 9:46am at Sibley Hospital in Washington. The baby weighed in at 8 lbs, 6 ounces.

Participate in the digital baby shower or just check on what others saying.

A former candidate, I've learned a lot about politics, both good and bad. I'd prefer more of the former and a lot less of the latter and I'm trying to do my part!

  1. Whether you’re a conservative who thinks that two women together can’t provide a stable family environment to raise a child or you’re a liberal who still can’t quite grasp why VP Cheney will endorse gay marriage bans aimed at preventing homosexuals from doing exactly what his daughter and her partner just did and how his grandson will feel about that when grandpa shows up to his first softball game, I think we can all come together across the political divide to agree that Samuel David Cheney is going to grow up to be one seriously confused and screwed-up child.

  2. Not necessarily. I think they’ll do just fine, as long as they keep Grampa Voldemort at arm’s length.

  3. “Not necessarily”, in the same way that the sun isn’t *necessarily*, in the strictest sense of the word, going to rise in the east tomorrow.

  4. Hey anon,

VP Cheney has never endorsed gay marriage bans. In the national VP debates he said that he (him not W) opposed the Federal Marriage Amendment, said these things should be left to the states and that people should be free to have “whatever relationship they want.” Much more reasonable than someone like Johnny Joannou and the other Virginia Repubs.

That said, I don’t like that the Cheneys released a photo of the newborn grandson with them and without the grandparents. I have never seen a press photo of a newborn with grandparents and not parents. I also don’t like the virtual babyshower that the gay family group is throwing online. If you are going to exploit a baby for political gain, at least give the kid some cool gifts, not just political e-mails!
