Vick signs deal, will plead Monday

It’s all over but the shouting.

NFL star Michael Vick signed a plea deal with federal prosecutors in Richmond late Thursday and has agreed to admit to financing the Bad Newz Kennels dogfighting operation from his Surry County property, according to a source with direct knowledge of the deal.

UPDATE: The NFL has suspended him from the League indefinitely without pay.

UPDATE2: The signed plea agreement is here and the summary of facts is here. Both are pdf documents.

  1. “Vick’s three co-defendants have all pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge after accepting plea agreements that would have required them to testify against Vick if he had chosen to go to trial.”

Why did the prosecutors offer deals to the scumbags if they have enough evidence to try Vick without their testimony? Why are they reluctant to try Vick even with that testimony? Perhaps because, when the defense cross-examines the scumbags, their stories will not match, and their credibility will be zero because they are testifying so that they can get reduced sentences.

  4. Fortunately, unlike in dog fighting, they don’t allow rape stands in prison.

  5. added: Mouse, the feds are smart enough not to take a chance on one hold-out juror screwing their case because they’re in awe of seeing Michael Vick on the other side of the defendant’s table every day. That’s why you offer a deal: it’s a guaranteed conviction, with no chance of appeal, and you get to set the sentencing guidelines before the judge.
