Six years.

I really have nothing new to add to my post last year. Nothing has changed. Bin Laden is still at large. The fear-mongering continues, with the threat of terrorism on American soil still hanging over our heads. The deaths of nearly 3,000 people on 9/11/01 are not forgotten but are no longer the rallying cry for bring America – and the world – together against a common enemy.

To George Bush, who squandered the empathy of the world, I say January 20, 2009 can’t come soon enough.

To the families of the innocent victims, my prayers are with you.

A former candidate, I've learned a lot about politics, both good and bad. I'd prefer more of the former and a lot less of the latter and I'm trying to do my part!

  1. I hope that by the time we hit the ten year mark, this is how we’ll observe 9/11. After six years, I’m six and friggin’ tired of staring into an empty hole in the ground and being told how everyone wants to kill everyone else.

  2. Viv alot has changed in certainly one area, we as a nation are less united today concerning the war on terror for sure…now I know it is extremely difficult to be apolitical these days but today I choose to believe we are “all” Amercians first no matter what and will put those lost on 9/11 in our hearts today and every day for their sacrifice. My fear is that we as a nation are becoming one disillusioned with the greatest gift ever…to be an Amercian and are aligning ourselves primarily through political distinctions in placing more focus on what others think of us over what we think of ourselves and falling into the trapping of such things as calling one anothers patriotism into question or honor like the ad from yesterday…on 9/11 and until the end our enemies did not and do not care whether we are Democrat or Republican but that we are Amercian. On this day as on 9/11 that certainly is clear. We certainly are still the Alter of Freedom.

  3. We have even more enemies today because of the way this occupation has been handled.
Get the troops out NOW and let those poor Iraqies take care of their own country.
I am not afraid of terrorists, I am afraid of this admin.
I would ask them to be ashamed but the don’t have the capacity for it.

  4. Linda I would point out that while 9/11 was a trajedy for us from another perspective , that of the Kurds in Iraq, it is one that they know was an event that led to their freedom, something lost on those who narrowly focus on the issue of Iraq and I for one am certainly glad that we were able to bring them the Alter of Freedom after failing them in 1991. I would enjoy the debate regarding “enemies” but just not on this day.

  5. Wow, way to put aside partisanship for one day. I would figure today of all days, we could stop kvetching about politicians and just remember those lost on that otherwise beautiful, sunny day.

  6. but today we have mutt and jeff in d.c. on 9.11 talking about iraq. so the “for one day” mantra was thrown out the door by you know who.
just another spin cycle for them.

  8. I’ve been listening to this version of the national anthem all day:

It is my favorite, and I think, the most beautiful version.

    Enjoy.
