Where the candidates stand: redistricting

VP RedistrictingToday’s sidebar on the op-ed page of The Virginian Pilot addressed the issue of redistricting. This is, of course, an issue that is more important than a lot of people realize, and was a topic of discussion at the Norfolk Drinking Liberally gathering earlier this week. I addressed the details of this in an earlier post so I’m not going to rehash it here. Click on the grpahic (credit: The Virginian Pilot) to see how the candidates stand.

Just as it played out earlier this year, many House Republicans are against this, while Senate Republicans support it – or say they do. Nick Rerras says he supports it, but voted against it. Like his flip-flopping on eminent domain (now says he supports the bill but voted against it), I never know which Rerras to believe.

Vivian, if the Democrats win control and give up redistricting power, I’ll buy you lunch.

I’ll also sell you a nice bridge.

That is because Rerras will say or do anything to get re-elected. He counts on the fact that voters believe what he says and don’t look at what he does.
