So what’s happening in OH-05?

There is another special election today. In Ohio, Democrat Robin Weirauch is taking on Republican Robert Latta. This is also a Republican-leaning district. (Time for non-partisan redistricting, anyone?)

Right now, with just over 25% of the precincts reporting, Latta is leading 13,035 to Weirauch’s 10,605. Ohio has a great website (try clicking on the Interactive State Map on the right) but results have been slow in coming.

UPDATE @ 9:43 pm -  with almost 74% reporting, Latta is ahead with 41,983 votes to Weirauch’s 32,932. Guess the Republicans retain this seat as well.

  1. Republicans win comfortably. However, neither of these wins can be considered big wins for the GOP. These are solidly red districts. To try to make this out to be a big victory would be like bragging about how tough you are because you stepped on a cockroach.

  2. The amount of money Dems made them spend on OH-5 was substantial -about 1/5th of the NRCC’s cash on hand went into that retention. That expenditure makes it harder for them to attack vulnerable House Dem freshmen, which may, in turn, give us a little more flexability in terms of how many races we can spend money on next year and where, potentially creating a wider number of pickup opportunities next November.

  3. Good points, anon.

And yes, Latta won – with almost 57% of the vote.

  4. And Latta won every county, too.
