Dissing redistricting reform

Posted in Local, Politics, Virginia by vjp on January 18th, 2008

Thanks to Assembly Access, we get to see the House P&E subcommittee on Elections kill not one, but two redistricting bills this morning.

First up: Del. Ken Plum’s HB339. By the way, note that he says that he introduced this same proposal in 1978, when there were 75 Democrats in the House of Delegates.

And they also killed Del. Bob Brink’s HB1070.

HB836, which was proposed by Del. Brian Moran and was supported by the Virginia Redistricting Coalition, was pulled this morning. I understand Del. Moran asked that the bill be considered at a later date and the request was refused.

We cannot rely on the parties to do what is best for the voters. Add your name to the petition for redistricting reform today.
