NTP2: Evaluating city government

The Norfolk Tea Party 2 will be holding a meeting Saturday morning at 9am at The Banque (1849 E. Little Creek Rd), the purpose of which is to conduct a survey about city government. The latest efforts by the group were the subject of this article in The Virginian Pilot, as there is some concern about the objectivity of the group.

[Norfolk Vice Mayor Anthony] Burfoot said he is bothered by the fact that one of the group’s recent meeting flyers noted that coffee and doughnuts were to be provided by Councilman W. Randy Wright. Wright was a founding member of the original Tea Party, founded in the 1970s to protest real estate taxes.

“How can you call yourself a watchdog or try to evaluate council persons when you’re not independent of council persons?” Burfoot said.

If you are unable to attend, you can complete the survey (doc) and mail it in. The due date is February 1. (By the way, the address on the survey is wrong. It should be Orange Street instead of Orange Avenue. Having lived on that same block for 11 years, I know who’s address that is ;) )

A former candidate, I've learned a lot about politics, both good and bad. I'd prefer more of the former and a lot less of the latter and I'm trying to do my part!

  1. “coffee and doughnuts were to be provided …”

    Shouldn’t they be serving TEA?
