Spruill: “The man candidates want in their corner”

Lionell SpruillChesapeake Delegate Lionell Spruill was the subject of an article in today’s Virginian Pilot. Spruill was recognized for his hard work on behalf of his favored candidates. Anyone from the area even remotely involved in politics knows how hard Spruill works: from his famous pancake breakfasts to his church attendance marathons, Spruill is constantly on the move and in motion to help his candidates succeed.

I’ll never forget the look on the face of Jim Webb when he was attending one of Spruill’s breakfasts. It was a Saturday morning and the next day, Spruill was going to take Webb to 17 churches. Webb was incredulous that it could happen. (In fact, they did’t make it to all 17 – they only got to about 12. They were trying to break the record of church attendance set by Spruill and then gubernatorial candidate Tim Kaine, which was 14.)

Spruill is supporting Hillary Clinton this time. He’s working hard to turn out the vote for her and no doubt will be everywhere tomorrow in pursuit of that.

Yeah – I’d say Spruill is the man any candidate wants in their corner.

A former candidate, I've learned a lot about politics, both good and bad. I'd prefer more of the former and a lot less of the latter and I'm trying to do my part!

  1. Unless you’re White and like to decorate your truck! Spruill’s not your friend then.

  2. A candidates man, huh? Figures, he is looking out for his fellow politicians more than he is looking out for his constituents. I think he has attended one too many pancake breakfasts if the biggest concern he has in the legislature is what someone has on the back of their truck. Get a friggin’ life!
