American Idol Results 04/10/08: The Surviving Seven

American Idol LogoThis week’s results show was bumped from Wednesday night in favor of “Idol Gives Back,” the celebrity-studded event in which money is raised for the less fortunate. It was announced that more than $60 million has already been raised, with contributions still being accepted through the website. I didn’t watch the show, although I did pass by the TV and caught Annie Lennox’s awesome performance.

Tonight’s results are based on Tuesday’s performances in which the contestants sang “inspirational” songs. Sorry – I wasn’t inspired. What was hyped as the best class of contestants yet has, at least to me, deteriorated into watching who can screw up the least. Kinda like watching a train wreck.

Anyway – rather quickly Brooke and the two Davids made it through to next week. None of them were outstanding. In fact, Brooke’s version of You’ve Got a Friend was quite lame. Carole King may be her idol but she didn’t do the song justice.

After a rather long break, we got back to the results. Jason – who I kept thinking looked like an updated version of Tiny Tim on Tuesday night – made it through. Kristy Lee, who did a rather nice job, actually, was also safe.

That left the bottom three: Syesha, Michael, and Carly.

Even AI is into politics as each of the three candidates for president appeared in pre-recorded messages for “Idol Gives Back.” I guess McCain was trying to be hip, making jokes about immigration and co-host Simon Cowell.

Just after that, the final results came in: Michael Johns was voted off. I had actually thought he had one of the better performances Tuesday. If I could give this guy one piece of advice, it would be to give up the rocker style and move into more of a blues style. He’s an average rocker, but a wonderful blues/R&B singer. Again, I doubt that we heard the last of him.

About Vivian J. Paige

A former candidate, I've learned a lot about politics, both good and bad. I'd prefer more of the former and a lot less of the latter and I'm trying to do my part!
