Congrats. Time for a shot and a beer?
Posted by MB | Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 12:12 amNaw. That will have to wait til tomorrow’s Shad Planking
Posted by vjp | Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 12:16 amC’mon — you love it. If you didn’t, you’d support the sales tax. The complications are intrusions of the income tax are, quite literally, your bread and butter.
Posted by Anon E. Mouse | Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 6:29 amNope. Tax season just gets worse every year.
And what I do for a living has nothing to do with my disapproval of the sales tax. (After all, most of what I do wouldn’t be affected, anyway.) The sales tax is just a plain dumb idea.
Posted by vjp | Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 12:04 pmOK, Vivian, what is dumb about the FairTax?
It is more progressive than the reality of the current system.
It will bring investment and manufacturing jobs back to the US.
It will fund government with a more stable revenue than taxing income.
It will save Social Security.
It will put half of K street out of business and reduce corruption in Congress.
SO, what is your beef with it?
Posted by Don Tabor | Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 12:56 pmAnd it’ll bring ponies. Why do you hate ponies, Vivian?
Posted by MB | Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 1:35 pmYes, ponies
Perhaps, Don, you get some satisfaction over rehashing the same thing. I don’t. I said all I needed or wanted to say in this post.
Posted by vjp | Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 2:17 pmWon’t it abolish the IRS? Tell me about how it’s going to Abolish the IRS and how we’re going to rely on the honor system or something to ensure that retailers actually bother sending the government out tax money rather than pocketing all or part of it. Come on, you can’t take the most disingenous line out of your argument just because it’s so patently false that we won’t believe anything else you say.
…well I suppose you can, but I don’t see what the fun of that is….
Posted by anonymous | Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 2:30 pmYou never answered those points in that thread either.
Did you ever read the Laurence (I’ve never voted for a Republican in my life.) Kotlikoff analysis?

Really, you have the time now. You should look at the facts and put aside those assumptions you got from reading an article from a lobbyist.
Come on, I do my part to fight tooth decay, you can at least consider making taxes simpler.
Posted by Don Tabor | Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 2:33 pmBecause your points made no sense then and none now. The tax is regressive, the large majority of people will pay more.
And if you think I relied on that article, then you are dead wrong.
And that’s the last time I address the Fair Tax.
Posted by vjp | Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 2:51 pmCongrats to Viv for surviving another cruel, unusual tax season!
I seriously want and need to get together. Are the plans for May at your house still on? I can even help this year if you need it.
If not, then we need to fall back on our earlier plan to go to dinner somewhere north of the bridge
You deserve a break for a while. I thought about the Shad Planking, but I can’t waste a day in the yard with tis weather. Someone has to plan t the veggies!
Good on ya, Vivian!
Posted by Mark Brooks | Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 4:14 pmActually, I want a unicorn, rainbow color.
Posted by Mark Brooks | Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 4:16 pmMark – yes the Third Annual Memorial Day Bash (5/24 2pm-5pm) is still on. I’ll certainly be calling on you for some help
I didn’t make it to the Shad Planking. Truth be told, I was just too tired. And although my grass is about a foot tall, I’m too tired today to go out and cut it. Perhaps tomorrow.
Unicorn – I like
Posted by vjp | Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 5:29 pmI’m magic, just like the Fair Tax!
Posted by Magic! | Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 9:27 pmOh, boo. I may be magic, but I can’t overcome HTML limits. Oh well.
