Blogger running for office

Bert Berlin, aka James River Maven, is running for the Richmond School Board.

I know that voters are tired of candidates who make promises they cannot keep. Therefore, I promise to my neighbors only that I will always put the interests of the children first, that I will be honest, and that I will do everything I can to make Richmond Public Schools a system we can be proud of.

Laudable goals. I wish Bert the very best. And if you’re a 4th District Richmond voter, head on over and check out his blog. (Um, Bert – where’s the contribution link? ;) )

Vivian, I can’t find your trackback link.

There it is. This happened to me before. The trackback link doesn’t show on your posts until a comment is posted.

I really don’t know the difference between a link and a trackback. You can always use the permanent link to the post, which is what you get when you click on the post title.

Looking at the trackback link format, it is the permanent link with /trackback/ on the end

A trackback is a technology that allows my server to ping yours, to post a link in your comments. It also sends a portion of my post to your comments, making my post effectively a comment on your post. It promotes interconnectivity between blogs posting on the same topic, so that both become part of the same conversation.

Rick – it seems that trackbacks work a bit differently from just a link, or perhaps it is that different platforms send different information. Yours, for example, sends a snippet of the post while the links I get from the blogger alliance (see here) are totally different. They both post a link in the comments.

Oh – and I think the NEA may be a big dog in other states, but not in VA. (Interestingly enough, I had a similar conversation about this a long time ago with a friend of mine. She was convinced that the unions tied the hands of folks until we were both at a presentation by the local school board. When the question came up about whether the union prevented them from doing certain things, the board said no. Unions really don’t have the same powers in VA as they do elsewhere.)

  1. Good Luck With That, Bert…

Learned from Vivan that Virginian blogger Bert Berlin of James River Maven is running for the Richmond School Board. Andhe has listed a set of admirable goals. I hate to be a wet blanket, but I fear his good intentions are wasted. The NEA is a six foot…
