Update on Gloucester BOS: resign & charges will be dropped

A couple of weeks ago, four members of the Gloucester Board of Supervisors were indicted on several charges. Tuesday morning, the four were in court and things started out, well, a bit strange:

“If anybody wants to resign from the board, we’ll drop the charges, and all will be forgiven.”

So said Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Hicks. Needless to say, the various attorneys for the defendants were not amused.

I think I need to head to Gloucester for some fireworks ;) Wonder when the next court date is?

What a wonderful precedent to set — indict lawmakers you do not like and make them a plea offer to get them out of office. Disgusting. If you have evidence that these guys have committed crimes, then prosecute them. If you do not have the evidence, drop the charges.

Also, what right does the Commonwealth’s Attorney have to communicate directly with parties who are represented by attorneys?
