What would you call David Englin? If there is one person in the entire General Assembly whom I would call a “grassroots candidate,” that person would be David Englin.

If I can add a head scratcher – why do you say (or seem to) that Bowerbank is the “grassroots” candidate, Bryan? Honestly, my knowledge of this race is pretty thin, so I’m digging around trying to better understand it.

Actually what really is making me stop and scratch my head is the inference from Bryan that none of the politicians mentioned on that list can boast solid grassroots support. Makes me wonder why I can think of the name of someone who has knocked on a door for so many of the names on that list. Personally, I’ve knocked on doors and/or made calls for five of them. And actually, come to think of it, I am sure I’ve read a few posts on this very blog that started with the words “I was knocking on doors in my district for Ralph Northam and Paula Miller this weekend, and….”

Since when do we not count?

Insider as compared to whom? If you mean Bowerbank, then yes. But if you mean DPVA chair Dickie Cranwell (who hasn’t announced but is, as of last I heard, “90% in” the LG race), then this is impressive.

Even so, calling her an “insiders’ candidate” when this announcement was specifically of GA members is a bit disenguous, don’t you think? Now had this been a general endorsement announcement, you might be able to make that claim. But it wasn’t.

She’s largely come across as the insiders’ candidate, so these endorsements shouldn’t be too surprising and I don’t think they really mean too much (though I do have a lot of respect for many of the names on the list).

What would be interesting is if a largely grassroots supported person endorses Jody or if an “establishment” candidate endorses Jon Bowerbank.

Wow. So, um, is Ben Tribbet going to expand his proxy war against Governor Kaine over the Connolly endorsement to include these prominent Democrats, as well? Or is he going to pack it in and find something else to write about?
