- @jbouie I was there. It wasn't nearly as neat as you make it. Medicare was not initally popular, remember? 6 hours ago

- @jbouie I'm not sure I agree with that assessment. I know that Nixon was ambitious and would step over his dead mother to get to the WH but 7 hours ago

I started this blog to talk about local politics, specifically Norfolk politics. It is impossible
to talk about Norfolk in a vacuum, so you'll also find some regional, state, and national politics. And sometimes, no politics at all.
The inspiration for this blog comes from one of Virginia's most respected forefathers:
"I know no safe depositary of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power."
Thomas Jefferson, 1820

If the debate changed any minds, I’d be amazed.
Actually, I think Jim Lehrer looked best of all.
I have to give it to Obama even if maybe in reality it was a tie because this was McCain’s home turf and area(foreign policy) he is a expert(LOL).
Ideas and Revolution – If you’re not outraged you’re not reading this blog
Last night, there was a one time, never to come again, opportunity for candidates McCain and Obama to walk across the stage…look each other in the eye…shake hands…and promise the American public that our economic engine would not self-destruct… regardless of who gets elected. With McCain having the background in triage and team building, and the benefit of experience, at a minimum, he should have suggested the maneuver. It was a missed opportunity to show a collaborative mentality.
The fact that Barack Obama stood on a stage, as a nominated Presidental candidate and a serious contender, on the campus of Ole Miss…speaks volumes. God bless America and may the best man win.
I won it frankly. Although my wife thinks she did–whatever!
I think Obama won by a hair. I was disappointed that Obama was not more aggressive … he left a lot of openings on the table.
Still, if he wins the election it will be said of the debates that he won it with class and I guess that’s a good thing.
