Just finished reviewing the numbers on the SBE website. Right this minute, Obama is leading by about 19,000 votes. Looking at what’s not in the numbers – Richmond, Roanoke, parts of Arlington, and Fairfax County – it’s pretty clear that Virginia has, for the first time in 44 years, voted for a Democrat for President.

I started this blog to talk about local politics, specifically Norfolk politics. It is impossible
to talk about Norfolk in a vacuum, so you'll also find some regional, state, and national politics. And sometimes, no politics at all.
The inspiration for this blog comes from one of Virginia's most respected forefathers:
"I know no safe depositary of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power."
Thomas Jefferson, 1820

We did it!!! I am so proud to be an American and a Virginia!!
Dear Ms. Paige:
I am considering for running for City Treasurer in Petersburg, VA. I have never run for any office, but I want to serve our city. I am wondering what you learned about the political process when you ran for City Treasurer?
Sincerely,
Kevin Brown
