26,000 requests for 500 tickets

Monday, I got an email from Senator Jim Webb’s office regarding requests for inauguration tickets.

“As of this morning, we have received in excess of 15,000 requests for the Inaugural Swearing-In ceremony in January. If this year is consistent with years past, our office will likely receive about 500 tickets. Space is limited and we have an extensive waiting list, but we will do our best to accommodate as many Virginians as possible.”

By Thursday, the number had grown – to 26,000 requests. This prompted the Senator to request more tickets.

The Honorable Dianne Feinstein
Chairman
The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies
Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C.  20510

Dear Madame Chairman:

As you determine how tickets will be allotted to congressional offices for the Inaugural Swearing-In ceremony, I ask that you consider Virginia’s proximity to the nation’s capital and the large number of federal employees who reside within the Commonwealth.

My office has already received in excess of 26,000 ticket requests from Virginians, often requesting multiple tickets each, for the Swearing-In ceremony.  It is our hope to accommodate as many residents of the Capital-area as possible, and I hope you take into consideration our unique situation.

I appreciate your time and consideration in ensuring a fair and viable system for Inaugural activities.

Sincerely,

Jim Webb
United States Senator

Congressman-elect Gerry Connolly has gotten so many requests he’s going to distribute his tickets by lottery.

Me? I think I’ll watch it on TV ;)

  4. Watching it on TV is the best seat in the house. I personally would’nt pay anything for inauguration tickets. And even more so for this one. The American people have put the most unexperienced person ever in the White House and for that they will get all thats coming to them. I hope his term goes well but with the record he has I dont see how that is even possible.

  8. I wonder how many that live in suburbia will be attending? Can buy Milk for their kids but slap their wives around and will be attending.

    Sad but true.

Good grief, Will – it’s a big world out there, get used to it!

  9. Where to start? Will, you need to get out more. Shut down the internets. Talk to your neighbors. Make a friend. Get a clue.

EVERY demographic group voted for Obama, except for a dwindling little band of mostly older hard-core Republicans still clinging to their most fundamental belief: racial stereotypes.

The world has moved on, Will, and left you behind. Time to join the 21st century, pal.

  10. Wait. I’m pretty sure that’s an *84* Cadillac, Will. That’s what Lee Atwater told me, anyway.

Just face the facts – the people have finally spoken and your team lost! Suck it up and grow up! You’re getting off easy – especially from a party who has royally screwed up this and other countries financially! Quit being such a drama queen. I am tired of Republician whining…
