When I got wind of the candidacy of Virginia Beach School Board member Pat Edmonson, I thought it was a joke. It wasn’t until after a few phone calls last night that I realized it wasn’t, something that was confirmed by the announcement I read in today’s paper.
There is a rumor going around about how and why Edmonson decided to run, but I won’t repeat it. Suffice it to say that if the rumor is true, it says something about the people involved and the lengths to which they will go. (Nothing new there, right?)
Democrats already have four other candidates in this race; Edmonson’s entry makes it five. Anyone has the right to run. And every candidate should be taken seriously. But this rush to run for LG is getting ridiculous.
Did you see her announcement video, it is posted over at vbdems…
I love the fact that she is embracing a very progressive message. Jody is not a candidate that can connect with crowds, and it will be impossible for her to beat Bill Bolling. We had better wise up as Democrats and run inspiring candidates who are not ashamed to be progressive.
If this is the campaign she intends to run, she’ll get my support.

Posted by Joel McDonald | Thursday, January 15, 2009, 11:15 amOoh, ooh, can I guess at the rumor?
Did someone recruit her in an attempt to split the primary vote in Virginia Beach?
Posted by silence dogood | Thursday, January 15, 2009, 11:50 amI was shocked! I have always been a supporter of Jody Wagner, however I fully support Pat Edmonson. She is far more inspiring and progressive.

Posted by MB | Thursday, January 15, 2009, 7:59 pmYa think any of these LG candidates could help us scare up some General Assembly candidates, or are we going to be stuck voting for a Republican or writing in our dog’s name once again?
Posted by spotter | Thursday, January 15, 2009, 8:33 pmYour dog’s name? Whenever the Democrats couldn’t find someone to run against John Warner, I wrote in myself.
Then again, I never had a dog.
