Rev. Lowery is now giving the closing prayer.
What a moving ceremony. Besides being historical, the sheer numbers of people on the mall waving flags is overwhelming.
This is truly an historic day, and I am glad to witness it. I think the perspective from my living room is entirely close enough for me.
My prediction is for nearly 3 million people in the area. One report put the lines of people on some side streets being 20 blocks long.
Congratulations to everyone, we have a new President and Vice President.
Posted by Mark Brooks | Tuesday, January 20, 2009, 12:40 pmI was there and could not get into my ticketed area because of the massive crowds. So many people but guess that – no arrests!!
The police were very polite, at both the Lincoln concert and the inauguration and both areas
were well contained.
You probably saw more than I did but at least I can say I was there!!

Posted by eileen | Thursday, January 22, 2009, 6:21 amI got into my section, thankfully. The most impressive part wasn’t the folks up on the capitol steps–it was the crowd stretching back towards the Washington Monument. Someone was passing out little American flags, and when everyone waved them at once it looked like a sea of shimmering red, white and blue stretching out towards the horizon.
The balls were pretty cool, too.
Posted by silence dogood | Thursday, January 22, 2009, 9:26 amWe got pretty close without tickets. It was awesome.
