Dems select Plum as caucus chair

House Democrats have selected Ken Plum as the new caucus chair.  This is an interesting turn of events, as many expected that Kris Amundson would be chosen. And word is that Charniele Herring, who won last night’s special election, is not being seated.  Seems that the race was just too close. More as it comes … Continue reading »

Wednesday quick notes

A challenger in the 2nd – Well, that didn’t take long. Chuck Smith, the former chair of the Virginia Beach Republican Party has announced his intentions to seek the 2nd Congressional seat in 2010. I expect that Smith won’t be the only challenger. Further, if some of the other names that are being tossed around … Continue reading »

In case you missed it: I figured everyone else must have taken the week off in order to this to happen ~ I got this via email (from my niece who teaches kindergarten): The comment in the email:  I’m laughing but you know this will happen.

Where do we go from here?

The above was the title of an article published in Sunday’s Virginian Pilot which was written by fellow HRCCE board member Roger Richman.  (Since the Pilot changed its online provider, links to the articles which only appear in the printed paper are harder to get, so here is a pdf.) Interestingly enough, the Pilot excerpted … Continue reading »

Who is Rich Savage?

In a book about New York Government, author Robert B. Ward had this to say: Among political observers, the office of lieutenant governor traditionally receives respect equal to that given the U.S. vice presidency — in other words, not much. One who held the latter office, John Nance Garner, is famously reputed to have said … Continue reading »

So here we go – seven random things you may or may not know about … Continue reading »

Need to copy large files? Try TeraCopy

Sometimes, I need to copy files that are pretty large. For example, my Outlook pst file is almost 5 gig (and that is after I archived anything prior to 1/1/08).  I need the file on another computer so I tried to copy it to my 8 gig thumbdrive, my 60 gig portable hard drive and … Continue reading »

No to Lee-Jackson Day, Yes to Virginia Heritage Day

Jim Hoeft over at Bearing Drift has an interesting proposal: If Virginia is ever going to move beyond the days of racial prejudice and towards Jefferson’s more perfect union, where all men are truly created equal, then we must take action to alter this holiday. Therefore, in an appeal to Governor Timothy M. Kaine and … Continue reading »

Another LG candidate

I missed this yesterday: it appears we now have four candidates in the race for LG. Michael Signer, an attorney who served as deputy counselor to Mark R. Warner (D) when he was governor, is considering entering the race for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor. I  just finished an interview with Rich Savage (article … Continue reading »
