Bad apple, that is. Tonight it was Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC). Is there something in the water down there? Jeez!
How many times during the Bush years did we hear that we should respect the office? Seems someone should give Wilson a few pointers.
During President Obama’s speech tonight, Wilson yelled out “you lie” after the president said no health care funds would be spent on illegal immigrants. Fellow Republican John McCain called Wilson’s outburst “totally disrespectful” and said he should apologize.
I understand you can’t get through to the Congressman’s office. His line is busy. It wouldn’t be because of the tweets of his office phone number, right? Nah!

UPDATE: Wilson apologizes

“How many times during the Bush years did we hear that we should respect the office? “
And how many times did Democrats ignore that plea and trash President Bush with the most vile and despicable language?
Seems they are getting a bit of their own back and they DESERVE IT.
I’m a constituent of Joe Wilson’s and I left a message on his web site: “THANK YOU.” He said exactly what millions of Americans were shouting at their televisions!!!!
Posted by Mike's America | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 12:59 amThere is a big difference between voters bashing and an elected representative disrespecting the office. Even your own Congressman realized he went too far and apologized.
Posted by vjp | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 9:30 amI entirely agree. As with a salute in the military, one does not have to respect the man in the uniform, but one does have to respect the uniform.
Posted by Anon E. Mouse | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 10:23 amWell, he was wrong to say it at that time, but he spoke the truth.
Don’t democrats respect the speaking to truth to power?
Posted by Anon E. Mouse | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 8:00 amThis is why debating the GOP is an impossible job. They live in a Glenn Beck false news alternate universe. To them this;
House Bill: “No Federal Payment for Undocumented Aliens.” According to America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009, Page 143, Line 3, Section 246: “No Federal Payment for Undocumented Aliens. Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.” [America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009]
Is providing taxpayer paid health care to undocumented aliens. I will bet my last buck that all bills that will come to the House and Senate floor will have this language in it.
Posted by Newport News Dem | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 8:41 amBut the amendments put forward to require that legal status be verified were defeated. With no enforcement measures, that line of the bill is meaningless.
Posted by Anon E. Mouse | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 8:50 amAnd even if there were enforcement measures, who would enforce those measures? And are we going to get to see THEIR birth certificates? What if THEY were born in Kenya? Can they prove they WEREN’T born in Kenya? I mean, the whole thing could be yet another socialist plot to undermine the country ….
Posted by spotter | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 6:01 pmI think what we saw last night was the epitomy of the modern day so called republican.
And the fact that someone on this blog who says he is from joe wilson’s district is defending him is almost laughable if not so sad.
your party is in the wilderness, run by eric cantor and joe wilson.
just a note to that poster, wilson’s opponent raised over $200000 since last nights wilson moment.
so, beside being censured, he now has time to join all those teabaggers for sandord because he will soon be unemployed.

Posted by Mark Brooks | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 4:03 pmOh and the modern day so called dem is just wonderful, they have the best ideas and can do wrong and everything they say makes perfect sense. Please, the dems are just as laughable if not more so!
Posted by rlewis | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 2:23 pmStill, I do not recall the dems’ heckling a Republican president who was addressing Congress.
Posted by Anon E. Mouse | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 2:57 pmI stand corrected: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBxmEGG71PM
Posted by Anon E. Mouse | Friday, September 11, 2009, 12:16 amOnce again, you have removed all doubt.
Posted by Mark Brooks | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 3:56 pmAh but the modern day Democrat is WINNING ELECTIONS, something the Republicans aren’t! You’ve lost the House, you’ve lost the Senate, you lost the White House you lost the Virginia Senate, you lost the Virginia Governor’s job several times in a row, and you are about the lose the Virginia House of Delegates.
Try to follow this, and not have a hissy outburst. There are rules of the House that Wilson broke. Rules that were written, oddly enough, by Republicans. Its about “civil discourse” which you republicans have lost, because you are, well, LOSERS! YOu can’t win elections, you have no idea’s, no plans so you start shouting and yelling and whining and having hissy fits, then you try to justify it! Then you sit around, blogging, wondering why your can’t win elections. One thing is certain, you aren’t attending any Mensa meetings!
Posted by T.W. Bonsac | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 4:08 pmThe democrats were also winning in 1992.
Posted by Anon E. Mouse | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 5:17 pmA Congressional Research Service report issued Aug. 25, 2009, confirmed our observation. The House bill “does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens participating in the Exchange—whether the noncitizens are legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently,” the report said.
Posted by Max Shapiro | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 4:18 pmI believe this (pdf) is the report you are referring to. However, I think you are misreading it or equating “noncitizens” with illegal immigrants. The two are not the same and the report explains the difference.
The entire section, for context:
So if I read this correctly, the Exchange portion would be open to illegal immigrants (although they would not be required to participate), but they would have to pay for it.
Posted by vjp | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 8:36 pmYou read that correctly. However, there is nothing in the bill requiring that legal status be verified before receiving that premium credit. Amendments that would have put such enforcement provisions into the bill were defeated by the democrats in committee.
Posted by Anon E. Mouse | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 9:21 pmAgencies and departments are tasked by the Executive to make rules and regulations that adhere to the bill that was passed.
Example: ADA
Posted by Mark Brooks | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 9:59 pmThe Democrats are nervous they realize the failures of BHO are going to reward the Republicans with alot of seats in the HOD along with the top 3 seats in Va.
Posted by Will | Thursday, September 10, 2009, 4:32 pmWhat is in the water in South Carolina? If you thanked this guy for his absurd outburst you must have forgotten all your manners & everything your mother taught you.
This is quite embarrassing..
