Steve Shannon hits the airwaves

Steve Shannon, the Democratic candidate for Attorney General, has released his first TV ad of the campaign.

The ad will run throughout Virginia, starting today.

About Vivian J. Paige

A former candidate, I've learned a lot about politics, both good and bad. I'd prefer more of the former and a lot less of the latter and I'm trying to do my part!

  1. Oooooh! Scare the Sally Soccermoms into voting for you.

This ad is exactly what Ken Cuccinelli says. He pledges to lock more citizens up so that Sally Soccermom can feel safe.

Well, I would expect a DEMOCRAT to say that he would ensure JUSTICE for ALL, not make a pledge to increase the number of people sent to jail. Virginia already has a system that tosses our citizens behind bars without adequate safeguards to ensure those charged are competently represented.

I would expect the DEMOCRAT to address how he would ensure that those charged would be assured competent defense, but instead we get a reprise of the REPUBLICAN pledge to simply lock more people away; how convenient, but how very unjust.

Both Republican and Democrat are pledging to lock more people away, and neither has made any mention of ensuring that JUSTICE is served. To these two candidates it is all just a box score where convictions are wins and acquittals are losses.

Virginians do not want convictions at the expense of the truth. Our citizens do not thirst for vengeance, but for JUSTICE.

We need a system built on fairness to our citizens, where the incentive provided to prosecutors is to ensure that a just and fair trial was conducted.

It is a disgrace that Mr. Shannon is merely parroting his Republican opponent, instead of standing tall for JUSTICE for ALL, as have Democratic candidates in years past.

I will vote for Creigh Deeds, but I will not support a Democrat like Shannon, who seems too eager to increase our already bulging jail population, for his own political gain.

  2. Watch the ad again. He isn’t saying he will lock more people up randomly. The ad is about his having brought the Amber Alert system to Va. when no one even knew what it was. It is about protecting our children. Are soccer moms worried about sexual predators? You bet you bottom dollar, sir, and they aren’t apologizing about it. This isn’t what Cuccinelli is saying. Cucc didn’t bring the Amber Alert system to Virginia, Shannon did.

  3. Shannon also has no clue what the Attorney General does; he got the special session wrong and hes wrong on Phil Hamilton. If Shannon gets elected he will have to immediately remove himself from the Hamilton issue.
