Monday roundup: Shannon endorsement, Deeds ad

NOVABizPAC, the political action committee of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce, announced that it has endorsed Democrat Steve Shannon for Attorney General.  From the press release:

“The Trustees voted to endorse Delegate Steve Shannon in recognition of his hard work promoting and protecting the interests of the Fairfax Chamber and our members.  I commend he trustees for examining the records and positions of these candidates, and for their commitment to making a decision that best supports the policies of this organization and the businesses it represents,” said NOVABizPAC Chair Fran Fisher.

The Deeds campaign sent out a press release saying they will announce a “major campaign endorsement from a statewide elected official.” Hmm – now just who could that “statewide elected official” be?

UPDATE: It appears it willbe former Republican governor Linwood Holton.

Republicans Bob McDonnell and Bill Bolling held a press conference call this morning to announce their “Fiscal Responsibility Plan.” I guess Ken Cuccinelli wasn’t invited to participate, something I keep seeing over and over. Are these guys trying to distance themselves from him?

Let me tell you what Cuccinelli does that McDonnell and Bolling don’t: invite bloggers from the other side to participate in their press conference calls. Once I became aware of this morning’s call, I emailed the press people for both the McDonnell and Bolling campaigns. Neither campaign responded. I can only assume that they are afraid to have someone on the call that doesn’t agree with them. UPDATE: I got an email from the Bolling campaign about 10:30pm. The person who emailed me was having Blackberry trouble and didn’t see my email until later. That only leaves the McDonnell campaign as nonresponsive.

Cuccinelli doesn’t appear to have the same problem. I participated in a press conference call with him about 10 days ago.

Speaking of Cooch – he announced this morning his first TV ad, which will go on the air statewide tomorrow.

UPDATE: PPP’s latest Virginia poll will be coming out tomorrow. Expect the margin to be smaller.

    • John, please review my comment policy and refrain from the name-calling.

What I’m praising here is that Cooch does not feel threatened by bloggers with whom he does not agree. I think that’s a good thing. It’s certainly not the same as saying that I support him.

  2. Being invited to press events, and then being shut out of them is a constant experience with conservative bloggers and the Deeds campaign.

    We know how you feel.

    • At least you get invited, which is more than I’ve gotten, especially for the McDonnell campaign. Generally speaking, I have to read about a scheduled press conference after it has taken place.

  3. The Cooch is nothing like Bush. Bush pushed REAL ID, the Cooch led the fight against it. If you want to identify the Cooch with a republican, make it Ron Paul.

    • Is Ron Paul a Republican? :)

      • By that logic, nearly no one in the Republican Party is a Republican. Fine with me. I think if Republicans actually followed their creed, they would get along with democrats much more. We both want whats best for America, democrats have just lost faith in the private sector to get things done and mainstream Republicans wrongly believe government just staying neutral will make things better. What we need is for people to just step and do what needs to be done. Sadly no one has the chutzpah to do it..but that will change very soon..

  4. I think Warner is confused. It’s Deeds who is calling for higher taxes, not McDonnell.

  5. Good grief. Holton is relevant but Wilder isn’t?
