Deeds, Kaine to attend Norfolk NAACP dinner

NAACP logoThe Norfolk branch of the NAACP will hold its 52nd Annual Freedom Fund Banquet tomorrow. The event will be held at The Murray Center, 455 E. Brambleton Avenue. The speaker for this year’s dinner will be Rev. Dr. James W. Webb II, pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

Among the many electeds and candidates in attendance to this sold-out event will be Governor Tim Kaine and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Senator Creigh Deeds. Invitations were extended to all of the statewide candidates.

You can read about last year’s event here. I’ll have a report from this year’s dinner as well. Depending on what else is going on, I may be able to tweet a bit during the event.

  1. In the Twenty-first Century, there really is no need for the NAACP.

Any politician who appears at such race-based organizations, as the NAACP, La Raza, Nazis, etc. is tacitly supporting racial separatism and approving of the ongoing racial extortion stunts that today’s NAACP uses to shake-down American businesses in order to line the pockets of their leadership.

While the NAACP may have had a noble beginning, it is nothing more than a scam operation that fans the flames of racial strife for its own benefit.

Politicians, as well as the rest of us, should contribute our valuable time and funds to causes that serve to unite us to solve common ground issues.

    • We’ve already had this conversation. You are entitled to your opinion, which I totally disagree with.

Secondly, I urge you to review my comment policy. You make claims about the national NAACP with no basis and project those claims on the local chapter, which is the host of this event. Prove that the local chapter engages in the behavior that you accuse them of – in particular the “shake-down American businesses in order to line the pockets of their leadership” part or clarify your statement.

    • I agree, enough with the race-based organizations. Time to get rid of the US Senate.

  2. If groups like the NAACP really want the USA to be color blind why do they feel the need for the NAACP ?

    • Who said they want the USA to be color blind?

And even assuming that they do, it’s not, right?

      • I have heard several NAACP leaders say that they were wanting to see the USA turn color blind. Even as the Democrat party has worked hard to keep race tensions very high so they can continue to get the black vote. Most of the black community does not realize that the Democrats are the party of one of the most racist groups ever to have been in the USA the KKK. Great Americans like Martin Luther King jr were Republicans and another great Republican Ronald Reagan made King’s birthday a national holiday. There are a long list of black Republicans that have wanted everyone to be equal. Please don’t take my word for it inform yourself.

        • You didn’t answer my questions. Name names of who you’ve heard say that. And do we live in a colorblind society?

You show your naivete when you make the statement about MLK being a Republican. He, along with almost all blacks, left the “Party of Lincoln” over the issue of civil rights. The modern day Republican Party is nothing like the Republican Party that existed at the time MLK and other blacks were members.

And all those southern Democrats that were members of the party at that time are now – surprise – Republicans.

Do a little research about Virginia’s implementation of the MLK holiday with a Republican governor at the helm.

BTW – around here we show respect for one another by using the appropriate names for the parties. That means you should call the Democratic Party by its correct name.
