The only debate of the election season between Bill Bolling, the incumbent Republican Lieutenant Governor, and his Democratic opponent, Jody Wagner, will take place tonight at 7pm at Roanoke College. The event will be streamed live over the internet here.
Consider this an open thread to discuss the debate.
And we are underway. The first question was, if the governor were of the opposite party, what do you agree with him on and how would you work together?

Posted by vjp | Monday, October 19, 2009, 7:19 pmNext question on transportation
Posted by vjp | Monday, October 19, 2009, 7:20 pmOK, this entire debate can be summed up as:
JW – Bill Bolling didn’t show up
BB – Jody Wagner supports tax increases
Doesn’t matter what the question is.
Posted by vjp | Monday, October 19, 2009, 7:26 pmApparently there is a rule that no outside notes are allowed but Bill Bolling read from a newspaper article. Shouldn’t the moderators have checked that before the debate started?
Posted by vjp | Monday, October 19, 2009, 7:30 pmNext question on the budget.
Posted by vjp | Monday, October 19, 2009, 7:32 pmThe questions so far have been designed to make each candidate be on the defensive. I’m not sure how that moves the conversation forward.
Posted by vjp | Monday, October 19, 2009, 7:36 pmNext question relates to the accuracy of revenue projections.
Posted by vjp | Monday, October 19, 2009, 7:38 pmIf the revenue projections were wrong, why didn’t the general assembly fix it before passing the budget?
Posted by vjp | Monday, October 19, 2009, 7:39 pmThe VBA screwed this up. They gave one set of rules to Bolling and another set of rules to Wagner.
Posted by vjp | Monday, October 19, 2009, 7:43 pmMissed the question. Must have something to do with jobs.
Posted by vjp | Monday, October 19, 2009, 7:46 pmQuestion to Wagner about creating jobs and cutting spending without being elected.
Posted by vjp | Monday, October 19, 2009, 7:50 pmWhy won’t Wagner call out Bolling on how she couldn’t have voted for taxes if she wasn’t elected?
Posted by vjp | Monday, October 19, 2009, 7:53 pmFinally she did it. But it was like pulling teeth.
Posted by vjp | Monday, October 19, 2009, 7:58 pmQuestion abt bipartisan redistricting.
Posted by vjp | Monday, October 19, 2009, 7:56 pmYes both support. I was surprised, actually, that Bolling jumped on board this issue last year.
