School board announces finalists for superintendent

With the retirement of current superintendent, Stephen Jones, scheduled for June 30, the Norfolk School Board announced the three finalists for the position. The three men – Richard Bentley, Randy L. Bridges, and Robert L. Copeland – will be in town this Thursday, June 17, for a public forum. This will be the only opportunity for citizens to meet the candidates prior to the final selection. The board has scheduled interviews on June 19, with a decision to be made prior to June 30. The public forum will be held at 7pm at Norfolk Technical Center, 1330 N. Military Highway.

17 apply for School Board

Seventeen people are being considered for what has turned out to be four of the seven slots on the school board.  It is disappointing that majority of council disagreed with Mayor Paul Fraim’s suggestion that the appointment for the fourth opening, created when Billy Cook decided to resign, be delayed until the new council members took their seats July 1.  I have to wonder if the decision on who will be appointed has already been made.

The public will have the opportunity to witness the interviews at the June 22nd council meeting. The decision will be made by council on June 29th, “when it meets in closed session that afternoon.”

About Vivian J. Paige

A former candidate, I've learned a lot about politics, both good and bad. I'd prefer more of the former and a lot less of the latter and I'm trying to do my part!
