Senator Ralph Northam announced today that he will seek a second term in the Virginia Senate. In his newsletter to constituents, of which I am one, the first term Democrat says that while some things have been accomplished, there is still work to be done.
I want to help solve these problems for our region and our state, and that is why I am seeking a second term in the Senate of Virginia. This is not a decision I made lightly; there is much uncertainty in the current political climate, and with redistricting looming next year. However, I believe that the knowledge I have gained and the relationships I have made during my time in the General Assembly have made me a more effective representative of your interests in Richmond, and I would honor the opportunity to continue serving you.
Northam represents the 6th Senate district.
It will be interesting to see who the GOP fields against him. Having worked both ends of his district for the past 2 years, I can say it will take one heck of a candidate to unseat him.
Pretty much any Republican likely to play well in OV will have trouble on the Shore and to some extent vice versa. On the Shore you are either a “come here” or a “from here.” If your family hasn’t been there for a least a century, you aren’t a “from here.”

We may not agree on this, but I think you are lucky to have him as your Senator. I wish he was mine!

Posted by vjp | Thursday, December 16, 2010, 10:00 pmWhy would a Republican challenge him when he can just switch parties? That is, unless someone tweets it.
