A win for the citizens of Norfolk

Developer, Norfolk abandon deal:

Faced with certain defeat, developers withdrew their request to the City Council on Tuesday for additional incentives to construct a $32.7 million office tower in a low-income neighborhood.

[...]

… council members said the public reacted sharply once word of the proposal broke Monday, showering City Hall with e-mails and telephone calls.

Despite the late notice, the citizens of Norfolk were able to respond quickly. I saw a couple of the emails that were circulating.

Good job, fellow citizens, on convincing those who represent us to agree with us and just say no.

One Response to “A win for the citizens of Norfolk”

  1. Good job indeed. And special kudos to Harry Minium for his Monday story. Had it not been for that, Norfolk citizens would have seen yet another one sneaked by us. I do sincerely hope that this is a tipping point. I hope that vigilance by the press and the public in demanding information be provided before voting on such matters be the new normal and therefore that actual facts rather than political favors prevail on all such matters in the future.
