Northam GOP challenger to be chosen Saturday

6th Senate District Republicans will choose their candidate to oppose freshman Senator Ralph Northam Saturday. Their choices are the man who moved into the district to run or the lady who just changed her voting registration to her residence.

One thing is certain: whomever they pick will have an uphill battle. Northam is going to be tough to beat, given how hard he works the district and his roots to the area. Nevertheless, expect this to be an expensive campaign as the Republicans try to win control of the Senate.

A former candidate, I've learned a lot about politics, both good and bad. I'd prefer more of the former and a lot less of the latter and I'm trying to do my part!

  1. The lady who just changed her registration happens to run the emergency room at DePaul and has volunteered with or been an instructor for every EMS squad in the district, plus her family has been in Ocean View for over 150 years. A neurologist vs a trauma doctor should make for an interesting and competitive race. I’m not sure how Loyola could even make a dent.

  3. I hear Loyola is the nominee; I don’t see how he wins. Northam has roots in both Norfolk and the Eastern Shore, while Loyola had to move into the district (and he just barely moved into the district, in the tiny piece of Virginia Beach) from Pungo just to run there. It’s not quite like Dave Marsden’s move, since he lived just outside the district. As I said elsewhere, it’s more like Marsden moving from Burke to McLean to run in the 31st.
