Cut spending, but not defense or entitlements

I’m not really surprised that a poll by ODU and The Virginia Pilot found that a lot of people want spending cuts but not in areas that affect them, are you?

There’s really a simple answer to the deficit, one that Congressman Bobby Scott has been saying for a while now: let the Bush-era tax cuts expire. In a recent press release, Scott said:

The estimated savings of this (debt ceiling) deal only pay for half of the cost of extending all of the Bush-era tax cuts for another decade.

PolitiFact Virginia vetted that statement and found it to be true.

There really isn’t any way to have your cake and eat it, too. Either everything gets cut, including defense and entitlements, or taxes go up. Pick your poison.

I’d prefer we just let those tax cuts expire.

A former candidate, I've learned a lot about politics, both good and bad. I'd prefer more of the former and a lot less of the latter and I'm trying to do my part!
