Peninsula LWV Announces 2011 candidate forums

Mark your calendars! The Virginia Peninsula MAL Unit of the League of Women Voters of Virginia announced Friday that it will be hosting four candidate forums covering the General Assembly races in Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson and Yorktown. The forums will be open to the public and will be moderated by The Daily Press. The forum schedule:

  • Virginia Senate District 1: September 30, Newport News Fountain Plaza II. Candidates: Senator John Miller and Mickey Chohany
  • Virginia House District 93: October 14, 2011, Newport News Fountain Plaza II. Candidates: Delegate Robin Abbott and Mike Watson.
  • Virginia House District 94: October 21, 2011, Newport News Fountain Plaza II. Candidates: Gary West and David Yancey.
  • Virginia Senate District 2: October 28, 2011, Hampton City Hall. Candidates: Senator Mamie Locke and Thomas Harmon.

All of the forums start at 6:30pm. The Newport News Fountain Plaza II is located at City Center at Oyster Point, 700 Town Center Drive. The Hampton City Hall forum will be held in council chambers on the 8th floor. Video of the forums will be posted on the website of The Daily Press (dailypress.com).

From the press release:

The Virginia Peninsula will be publishing Voter Guides for each of the races. We feel that this gives voters the opportunity to hear candidate’s thoughts on various issues as well as giving contact information where voters can research the candidates in their elections. The Voter Guides will be posted before the debates at the Virginia Peninsula League of Women Voters website (lvwpeninsula.org) or you can also follow us on twitter (twitter.com/vplwv).

I understand the South Hampton Roads LWV is also working on candidate forums for the races on our side of the water. Once I get that information, I will pass it along.

About Vivian J. Paige

A former candidate, I've learned a lot about politics, both good and bad. I'd prefer more of the former and a lot less of the latter and I'm trying to do my part!
