Reminder: Miller/Chohany forum tonight

Tonight, Sen. John Miller and challenger Mickey Chohany will face off for the first time. The candidates’ forum is being hosted by the Virginia Peninsula MAL Unit of the League of Women Voters of Virginia. The forum will take place at 6:30pm at the Newport News Fountain Plaza II, located at City Center at Oyster Point, 700 Town Center Drive. The forum is, of course, free and open to the public. Daily Press editorial page editor John Fredericks will serve as moderator.

In advance of tonight’s forum, the League has put together a voter guide (pdf) in which the candidates provide answers to several questions poised to them.

The newly redrawn 1st Senate district is mostly in Newport News but also includes parts of James City County, Hampton, Williamsburg, York County and a tiny bit of Suffolk, making this race of interest to voters on both the Southside and the Peninsula. Incumbent Democrat John Miller was first elected to the seat in 2007, making this seat one of those the Republicans are targeting. Democrats hold a 22-18 advantage in the Senate.

I’m going to try to make the forum. Hope to see you there!

About Vivian J. Paige

A former candidate, I've learned a lot about politics, both good and bad. I'd prefer more of the former and a lot less of the latter and I'm trying to do my part!
