Hampton Roads, Local, Politics, Virginia

Less than two months

While most eyes are trained on the national races, localities across Virginia, including several in Hampton Roads, will be holding elections in about six weeks. May 1 is the day that voters in Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News and Williamsburg head to the polls to cast their ballots for candidates seeking to serve those communities.

My latest op-ed, published in The Virginian-Pilot Wednesday, attempts to highlight this. I hope to have time in this space to compile the candidate lists, so that readers of this blog will at least know who is on the ballot. I saw a couple of stories in the newspapers serving Hampton Roads but if tradition holds, I’m not expecting to see many more.

In the meantime, consider this an open invitation to all of the candidates to submit an article to be posted here about why you are running and what you hope to accomplish.

A former candidate, I've learned a lot about politics, both good and bad. I'd prefer more of the former and a lot less of the latter and I'm trying to do my part!

  1. Sometimes it takes me a day or two to read your opinion. And sometimes longer. This is one of your better, IMHO. I hope that the candidates see your invitation.
