A 21% raise? Really?

In these austere times, Suffolk City Manager Selena Cuffee-Glenn is proposing a budget that includes a raise of 21%.

For herself.

Nevermind that “Surprising Suffolk,” as it used to be known, is smaller than its neighbors and has fewer employees. Nevermind, even, that the paltry 2% raises for its teachers will likely be scrapped. Nope, the city manager – and the city attorney and the city assessor – should be paid like their colleagues in neighboring localities.

It should be of no surprise, then, that the crowd last night ridiculed the proposed pay plan.

I’m guessing the only ones surprised in Suffolk now inhabit City Hall.

  2. Isn’t it interesting the Vice Mayor, today, wrote complaining about the VPilot complaining about this. I realize it is tough to live on $160K these days, but how can the Vice Mayor not understanding the visual!

  3. I think you can probably live pretty well in Suffolk on $160K per year. that’s about four times the median salary.
