So Mitt Romney claims he lost because of “big policy “gifts” that the president had bestowed on loyal Democratic constituencies, including young voters, African-Americans and Hispanics.” According to a recording of the call, partially aired by ABC, Romney actually said:
What the president, president’s campaign did was focus on certain members of his base coalition, give them extraordinary financial gifts from the government, and then work very aggressively to turn them out to vote.
How, then, does he explain the votes for President Obama by people who don’t benefit from any of those so-called gifts? And if there were gifts to be had, where the heck is mine?
No wonder Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, a Republican and a minority, slammed Romney for such statements.
Losing an election is hard; Romney should know that, because he has lost before. But lashing out doesn’t change the results.
