My latest op-ed, title above, appeared in The Virginian-Pilot today. Two of the women mentioned are Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Norfolk acting (hopefully soon-to-be permanent) police chief Sharon Chamberlin. I managed to get through an entire column without once mentioning Gloria Steinem, one of the leaders in the women’s movement from the 1970s, … Continue reading
Today is International Women’s Day. Activities are going on all around the world. Here is a message from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. One of the activities includes standing on a bridge. Locally, the League of Women Voters of South Hampton Roads will march from Christopher Newport University to the Lion’s Bridge. Details are here.
The New York Times (free registration required) has a series of articles on the demise of the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton. My favorite quote comes from Bob Kerrey, a former presidential candidate himself: Focusing on her mistakes is an exercise in making someone who is already miserable even more so. As is true with … Continue reading
I’m watching C-SPAN (no talking heads, although I have to admit the callers are pretty entertaining). Anybody else watching? I understand she is running about a half hour late. Consider this an open thread. UPDATE 12:06pm: This is what you see now when you visit HillaryClinton.com (click to enlarge)
I just received this: “Senator Clinton will be hosting an event in Washington, DC to thank her supporters and express her support for Senator Obama and party unity. This event will be held on Saturday to accommodate more of Senator Clinton’s supporters who want to attend.”
The primary season, which feels like it started two years ago, will be coming to an end this evening. My candidate, Senator Hillary Clinton, will be making a speech in NY, the content of which is unknown. Earlier in the day, the AP reported she would concede tonight but campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe says not … Continue reading
See ARG’s website. Oh – and then there is this: Doesn’t sound like she’s dropping out to me.
Robert Kennedy Jr. issued the following statement this evening: “It is clear from the context that Hillary was invoking a familiar political circumstance in order to support her decision to stay in the race through June. I have heard her make this reference before, also citing her husband’s 1992 race, both of which were hard … Continue reading
As compiled by Electoral Vote. See the Obama details here and the Clinton details here. UPDATE: Check out this post by Cokie Roberts. I think this was what she was trying to say last Sunday but the talking heads wouldn’t let her get a word in.
This Sunday’s On the Record will feature a segment with Del. Bob Marshall, who is seeking the Republican nomination for the opportunity to be roadkill run against Mark Warner in the fall. In the other segment, it is Clinton v Obama, in the form of yours truly and Congressman Bobby Scott. And in his My … Continue reading
OK, so it’s not a surprise that Hillary Clinton has been projected the winner of the WV primary. But did you know that no Democrat has won the White House since 1916 without winning the WV? Democrats carried West Virginia in 1992 and 1996, but lost the state—and the White House–in 2000 and 2004. Hmm. … Continue reading
The writing of the obituary of the Hillary Clinton campaign for the Democratic nomination for president began in earnest on Wednesday morning. Her narrow win in Indiana coupled with the loss in North Carolina has all of the pundits weighing in. I don’t think anyone can deny that the path to the nomination hasn’t narrowed. … Continue reading
