Redskins loss

The Washington Redskins lost their playoff game yesterday to the Seattle Seahawks, in a game in which we saw star rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III go down. Others have asked if Griffin should have even been playing. My answer? About these ads

Spotlight on Skins kicker Forbath

Great story in the paper today about Washington Redskins kicker Kai Forbath. He has definitely been a wonderful addition to the roster. Even as a football fan, I had failed to appreciate just how much better kickers are today that they used to be. One prerequisite to becoming an NFL kicker is being one of … Continue reading »

How sweet it is!

The Washington Redskins beat the Dallas Cowboys 28-18 last night, winning the NFC East. It’s been a long time coming: The Redskins last won the division in 1999. For a ‘Skins fan, beating Dallas – even when it doesn’t matter – is sweet. With so much on the line, this was one of the biggest … Continue reading »

VB’s Gabby Douglas named AP female athlete of the year

Gabby Douglas, the gymnast from Virginia Beach, was named The Associated Press female athlete of the year today. Since winning gold at the London Olympics last summer, Douglas has been on a whirlwind publicity tour and written a book. (Her website could use some updates.) A hearty congratulations!

Congrats to ODU’s Heinicke!

The ODU sophomore quarterback won the Walter Peyton award, the FCS’ equivalent of the Heisman. This is a big deal and my congratulations to Taylor!

Skins 17, Giants 16

How could I have forgotten to post this yesterday? Monday night, the Washington Redskins beat the New York Giants by a single point. What a game! At 6-6, the team is tied for second place in the NFC East, one game behind the team they just beat. Three Four games are left, with two of … Continue reading »

Life after football: Tre Johnson

I ran across this article today about former Redskin Tre Johnson. We don’t often hear about pro players after their careers end, unless it is something negative. Johnson’s story is far from that. I always understood that lineman were pretty smart, if not the smartest players on the field. Johnson, after obtaining undergraduate and graduate … Continue reading »

‘Skins beat ‘Boys

Besides all the good food, the best part of Thanksgiving Day was the Washington Redskins defeating the Dallas Cowboys. And the 38-31 victory took place in Dallas, no less Supposedly, this puts the ‘Skins back in the playoff hunt but I’m not that optimistic. A lot will have to happen for the team to get … Continue reading »

Election set in 89th – Governor Bob McDonnell has set December 18 as the date for the special election in the 89th House district. The seat became vacant when Kenny Alexander was elected to fill the remaining term of Senator Yvonne Miller, who died in July. Three candidates will vie for the Democratic nomination. Skins: 1-1

Why am I not surprised that the Washington Redskins lost yesterday? Such is the life of a fan – the ups and downs, and in recent years, a lot of downs. Sunday’s game certainly was a downer. The ‘Skins defense needs a lot of work.

How ’bout them ‘Skins!

1-0, baby! What a great start to the season and to the career of rookie QB Robert Griffin III.

Behold, the green and gold!

A hearty congratulations to Norfolk State University for their big win over Missouri Friday. Despite the results of Sunday’s game, the team did the region proud.
