Presidential selector

Here’s one of those online polls where you answer questions (in this case 25) and it tells you which presidential candidate’s views most closely match yours.

My results are below the fold.

Needless to say, I think there’s something wrong with the questions 🙂 I mean – come on – Richardson’s in the middle of the pack?

Of course, I will admit that this is the second presidential election that one of these online polls has matched me up with Kucinich, so perhaps it is my answers that is the problem 😦

  1. Fred Thompson falls a little closer to my ideal candidate at #9, though from what I have heard, I think that sounds a little low. Interestingly enough, Duncan Hunter is #2, which does not really surprise me too much. Though, I imagine some Virginia bloggers would want me to change my vote on that news.

Two Republicans (Rudy Giuliani and Ron Paul) fell below 50%, and interestingly enough, Elaine Brown also fell in the lower half of my results. Makes me wonder what kind of values she has.

I also wonder where Michael Bloomberg is in your list. Did they only just add Bloomberg to the mix?

  2. I’m not sure when they added him. I actually answered the questions a week or so ago.

EDIT: I just answered them again (and of course, got different results) but Bloomberg came in at #9.

  3. Kucinich was pretty high up on my list, too (Obama and Gore were #1 and #2, Kucinich came in at #3). I feel like he would have fallen further down the ladder if to the qualifying question on professional background (an elected representative, an elected executive, a military leader, etc.) they had added, “smurfiest.”

  4. Hee hee – another Smurf fan, I see 😉 Either you’re young enough to have grown up when they were on TV or old enough to have kids that did.

  5. It’s a conversation for another time, but I’m struck by how well Kucinich matches up for many of us, but we never treated him as a serious candidate. I think there’s plenty of good reasons for that particular result, but it really bothers me when, in primary season (and the run up to it) we spend so much more time on electability and whatnot instead of substantive policies.

  6. All the Democrats (plus Bloomberg) above 50%, all the Republicans below; Obama at the top, Gilmore at the bottom. Looks right to me.

  7. wow a 95% match up with Alan Augustson- who is this fabulous candidate. Dennis Kucinich was second with 84%. All Repubicans were in the single digits or teens- poor chaps. Guess they will not get my vote.

  8. MB, the greatest and most common mistake that people make about politics is to assume that it’s about policies. Politics is about people, about voters and candidates, citizens and legislators, and it is therefore at least as important to understand human nature and the folks of your community as it is to know a lot of obscure facts about energy consumption and social security. A lot of very wonky brilliant people with exceptional ideas fail at it because they forget that fact and assume that being smarter than the average bear is reason enough to justify admitance to the oligarchy, and for whatever reason most of the time those people are democrats…though that may be because I can’t think of many brilliant republicans. 😉

It’s not human nature to think you can’t identify with someone because he’s weird and maybe a little creepy (even if he somehow has a really hot wife who’s a foot taller than him, how the HELL did that happen?) and still feel motivated to vote for that person over someone you might not agree with quite as much but who connects with you personally. And frankly that’s probably a really good thing, can you imagine Kucinich as our public face to nations like Iran or North Korea?

  10. Alan Augustson:

On 6/30/2007 Mr. Augustson announced that “I will cease to actively pursue the 2008 Green Party nomination for President”. However, “I may re-visit the possibility of a Presidential bid at some later time. For now, I am turning my attention to the pursuit of a different target: the Fifth Congressional District of Illinois”.

Mr Augustson came in first in my selector experience, followed by Barack Obama and Dennis Kucinich, tied for second.

  11. Hello Everyone:

I ran across this site while Googling myself (shameful, I know; but it’s something politicians absolutely have to do now and then). Hope everyone is doing well, and I’d like to invite you to my website where you can learn more about my campaign and what’s happening now:

Also, with the help of Frans Stracensky and Hammer & Pixel Studios, I finally have a high-def campaign ad on YouTube:
