I’ve updated my 21/51 page to reflect the pickups from yesterday’s elections. The count right now is four House seats and four Senate seats. The race in the 37th between Janet Oleszek and Ken Cuccineli will likely be the subject of a recount, since Cuccineli is holding a 91-vote lead out of 37,174 votes cast. (Wanna bet those 73 write-in voters are wishing they had made a different choice?)

WELCOME
I started this blog to talk about local politics, specifically Norfolk politics. It is impossible
to talk about Norfolk in a vacuum, so you'll also find some regional, state, and national politics. And sometimes, no politics at all.
The inspiration for this blog comes from one of Virginia's most respected forefathers:
"I know no safe depositary of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power."
Thomas Jefferson, 1820
