So is Terry running for governor?

That was the question I posed to Terry McAuliffe, former DPVA chair, former DNC chair and Clinton advisor, yesterday at Mark Warner’s Pig Roast.

McAuliffe was coy. He said that he’s focused on 2008. (Earlier in the day, he  had announced that he was planning a 30-locality tour, ostensibly to campaign for Mark Warner and Barack Obama.) I pressed him on this, given that the two other candidates in the race – Brian Moran and Creigh Deeds – are also focused on 2008 but have been willing to announce their intentions to seek the nomination. He would only go as far as admitting that he “is interested.”

I did get a committment from him to tell me his plans on November 5, the day after the election. I warned him to be on the lookout for my email at 12:01am 😉

As for the rest of Warner’s Pig Roast, I can describe it in one word: hot! I’m told that the caterers planned for 6,500 people to be there and based on the lines, I’d say that was pretty accurate. The heat, though, was almost unbearable. Kudos to Warner for standing in it and greeting his guests. It was so hot that everyone hung out under the trees as much as possible and didn’t move around as much.  (I understand that hanging out under the trees had its own risks – at least one group spotted a black snake!) Nevertheless, it was a good time to see folks from around the state.
