Statement from Mathieson

I received the following statement from Delegate Bobby Mathieson’s office regarding this story:

“Earlier today, I filed a police report with the Virginia State Police concerning suspected embezzlement of my campaign funds.  On conducting an internal review of my campaign finances, I noticed serious discrepancies and misuse of campaign funds.  After examining the account further, I determined that criminal activity may have been committed by Jason Robinson, a member of my staff, and I took immediate action to terminate him from my campaign and legislative office.  I then turned the matter over to the Virginia State Police, and I will cooperate fully with their investigation.

“I am outraged that a member of my staff has defrauded my campaign and abused his position.  I have full confidence that the police investigation will determine the depth and severity of this crime and ensure a proper resolution to this investigation and prosecution.

“I have enlisted the services of an outside accounting firm to perform a full review of my finances, and I have instituted increased oversight standards and practices to ensure those who have invested in my campaign will not have their trust violated again.”

I have known Jason for a long time.  I’m speechless.

  3. Why is the Mathieson’s campaign trying to be hush hush now after the embezzlement statement. They are affraid that the talk with cause him to lose the race maybe?
    Truth is bank statements,checkbooks etc
are still in the hands of Jason Robinson.
He should have never been allowed to take
that information out of the campaign headquarters.

    LM
He was given to much power. How many people donated money just to have it mishandled.

    • And you know this how?

Given that the investigation is in the hands of the State Police, just what do you expect the Mathieson campaign to say?

      • Have you heard anything else about it?
Do you know where Jason Robinson is?
Meanwhile he has been given time to flee with tax payers money.

        • Taxpayer’s money? How are campaign donations taxpayer’s money?

Have you ever followed an embezzlement case before? The State Police does their investigation and turns over the results to the Commonwealth’s Attorney, who then decides whether or not to indict.

          This stuff doesn’t happen overnight.
