No words

I have been glued to the TV and computer for the last few hours since getting a phone call from a friend urging me to turn on the TV. The shooting in Arizona of Rep. Gabby Giffords and others is almost beyond belief. The Congresswoman is expected to survive but five six others, including a federal judge and a child, did not.

There are no words to express the range of emotions that I’m feeling right now. Rep. Giffords was shot while holding a “Congress on Your Corner” event at a grocery store. Glenn Nye, former 2nd CD representative, held a few of those last year. His predecessor, Thelma Drake, held several similar events, called “Coffee with the Candidate,” which I attended and reported on. I just can’t imagine a shooter at those events – just can’t.

Of everything I’ve heard or read over the last few hours, this tweet said it best:

I hope every member of Congress will hold a Congress on Your Corner event next Saturday to show that violence will not defeat democracy

Amen.

My prayers are with the families of all who have been affected by these senseless act.

  1. I’ve been thoroughly shaken up by this…and don’t even know where to start.
The rhetoric needs to be toned down and civility needs to make a come back soon.
My thoughts and prayers are with the families of all who were affected by this as well as friends and former colleagues in all federal offices.

  2. This just makes me ill. My dad, stepmother, aunt and cousins live in Tucson. My grandparents lived there since the 1960s until they passed away. It’s just unthinkable.

One disturbed guy, a gun, and any one of a number of possible motivations. And that place and those people will never be the same.

The truth is, this could just as easily have happened here.

I pray for all of the victims, and that we find a way to put a stop to such evil.

  3. Unbelievable.

My prayers go out to the families of the victims, and of the shooters. They must both be going through hell.

  4. It’s been a day and a half since our homegrown terrorist attacked … and still “There are no words to express the range of emotions that I’m feeling right now.”

  5. This truly is a horror. Based on first reports about the shooter, he seems to have been deranged. So his motives likely won’t make any sense to any of us. I would agree that the rhetoric needs to be toned down. It is possible to disagree with people politically without believing that they are evil.
