His life is destroyed, he’s bankrupt, will be forced to repay the money he was paid by ODU, lost his political position, has been convicted of a serious crime of moral turpitude.
He is ruined, he should still go to jail. His victims are ODU and the Commonwealth of Virginia, to a lesser extent the officials at ODU. He did not destroy some little old lady’s life by defrauding her, he did not hold a gun to somebody’s head.
Twelve years feels like piling on.

I was actually surprised that he was convicted of extorsion, I think that’s hard to get out of this case. Obviously, he did take a bribe, the other offense he was charged with.
