Phil Kellam, the Democratic candidate for the 2nd Congressional district, has gotten his website up. Head over and take a look. Kellam is seeking to replace Republican Thelma Drake. The 2nd Congressional district covers the city of Virginia Beach, the Eastern Shore, a part of Norfolk (including where I live) and a part of Hampton.

Just so you know, it’s K-E-L-L-A-M, with an A. Nothing big. Also, the Second includes the Eastern Shore.
I fixed it. Thanks!
I am wondering if Phil’s current campaign ads are intended to appeal only to the most ignorant of the electorate or is he actively trying to make the electorate so sick of political campaigns they will not bother to vote.
I don’t think that is the intent of a TV ad 😉 But one thing is for certain: expect many more – from both sides. I think it’s going to be a long 46 days.
Long and dirty.
How do we get the candidates to get back to talking about issues again? Is that the “impossible dream”?
I don’t think there is any way to get the candidates to talk about the issues as long as opposition research reveals something that could be even remotely damning. Smearing one’s opponent rules the day, mainly because it works in swaying voters. If the voters were less susceptible to such things, we’d see less mudslinging.
Has anyone noticed that Phil’s website still has absolutely no content? No opinion on the issues, nothing except reprints of news stories. The “community forum” is still blank. The election is in a month– how can we even consider voting for someone who has put no effort into informing the voters?
I guess we have to wait for the TV ads 😦
Seriously, I suspect we’ll be seeing some mailings soon. But I agree -candidate websites should have information on them that allow visitors to learn the candidate’s position.
I guess I can’t complain too much since Thelma Drake’s website isn’t much better. I just don’t recall seeing such useless websites in the past. For the gubernatorial election last year we had good pages from all the candidates for all three offices. For a Federal office I expected the same, but I guess not.
I think last year we had candidates that understood the nature of the internet. I’m not so sure we have that this year 😦
