Today is Blog Against Sexism Day, appropriate since today is also International Woman’s Day.
Interestingly, I had a conversation just last night with a friend about sexism in the workplace. While I have observed others being the victim of sexism, it is not something I have ever experienced. My friend didn’t believe that. Of course, some 15 years ago, I had a professor with whom I had a similar conversation and she didn’t believe me then, either. Both of them insist that perhaps I’m just not seeing it. No – it actually hasn’t happened. And I believe the reason is that being black trumps being female when it comes to discrimination.
No one has ever told me I couldn’t do something because I ‘m female, but I’ve been told many times I couldn’t do something because I’m black. I don’t deny that sexism exists – heck, I’d be completely blind if I did – but it is just not an issue for me.
In a perfect world, no discrimination would exist. And that’s the kind of world I want to be a part of.
Cmon, the Blacks, Hispanics, Women, and gays have it made! Its the poor WASP’s who we should be worried about, what kind of world is it where whites have to compete with the rest of the world…
I know this is an inappropriate place to post this message, but I can’t find your email anywhere. I need your help finding a VP article online that appeared in yesterday’s print version. It was an article about hiring practices of the VB Police and Fire/Rescue beyond just the math test. It had a pix of Georgia Allen and it was on the cover of the Hampton Roads section of the paper. I can’t find it anywhere on line. (I also haven’t subscribed to the online paper yet either. No money even for a newspaper… but someday soon I will.) Thanks, Vivian.

PS Can you change your blogroll for me? Sean Holihan has joined me blogging and we switched over to http://www.VBDems.blogspot.com. Note Dems as in more than one Dem.
I sent you the link. Most of the paper doesn’t make its way online. And I updated your link.
