In this hilarious fantasy chat between Virginia Beach mayor Meyera Oberndorf and Norfolk mayor Paul Fraim, the Virginian-Pilot’s Kerry Dougherty takes on both cities and their responses to real estate tax relief. My favorite part:
“Tell me about it. We’ve been spending money as fast as it came in and no one ever said one word. Oh, sure, a couple of cranks who didn’t want their property condemned. Troublemakers. They complain about everything. On the whole, we’ve been blessed with a city brimming with cheerful taxpayers. Obedient as heck, too. Now this.”
Only problem is that this is too close to the truth: we have been obedient and allowed them to spend whatever money they get.
